CHAPTER 5 – The Last Name She Chose

One year later.
The penthouse on Park Avenue belonged to another family.
Alexander wore a prison uniform instead of Italian suits.
Clara had disappeared from every society page.
Vincent never asked Sophia to join his empire.
Instead, he visited her design studio every Friday afternoon.
Sometimes they talked.
Sometimes they didn't.
Healing, Sophia discovered, rarely needed speeches.
One evening, Vincent noticed a new brass plaque beside the entrance.
MORETTI & BLACK STUDIO
He frowned.
"You kept his name?"
Sophia smiled.
"No."
She pointed lower.
The word BLACK wasn't Alexander's surname anymore.
It was the color.
The color of resilience.
The color every designer starts with before creating something extraordinary.
"I didn't let him define it," she said.
"I redesigned it."
Vincent laughed for the first time in years.
Outside, reporters still asked whether she regretted exposing her husband.
Sophia answered only once.
"I didn't destroy a powerful man."
"He destroyed himself the moment he believed the woman beside him had no one powerful enough to answer the phone."
She slipped her own phone into her pocket.
The contact labeled Dad remained there.
This time...
It was no longer an emergency number.
May you like
It was simply family.
