CHAPTER 4 — THE LIE BEHIND THE VASECTOMY

Two days later...

Daniel requested a copy of his medical records.

By evening...

He was sitting alone in his lawyer's office.

His attorney placed the file on the desk.

"You should read page four."

Daniel flipped it open.

His stomach dropped.

Patient failed to attend mandatory fertility clearance appointment.

Patient advised multiple times that fertility remains possible until laboratory confirmation.

Three documented reminder calls.

One email.

One certified letter.

He ignored every one.

His lawyer leaned back.

"Legally..."

He hesitated.

"You abandoned your pregnant wife based on an assumption."

Daniel closed the file.

Then another realization struck him.

Vanessa knew.

He remembered showing her the discharge papers.

She had laughed.

"You're finally free."

He frowned.

She had read them.

Every page.

Including the follow-up instructions.

She knew the surgery wasn't confirmed.

Yet she had spent weeks repeating the same words.

"She cheated."

"That baby isn't yours."

"She's trapping you."

His phone vibrated.

A notification.

Vanessa had posted another picture online.

Sometimes you have to leave toxic people behind.

For the first time...

Daniel didn't like the photo.

He saw manipulation.

Not love.

He immediately drove to Vanessa's apartment.

She opened the door smiling.

Until she saw his face.

"You knew."

Her smile disappeared.

"Knew what?"

"You knew I wasn't sterile."

Silence.

One second.

Two.

Then she whispered...

"I thought if you believed the baby wasn't yours..."

May you like

Daniel felt the room spin.

"...you'd finally leave her."
