“I hated that you left home and still looked happier.”
“I thought I did everything right.”
“Then you became pregnant first.”

“You wanted my baby?”
“I wanted what she meant.”
“The trust?”
“Mom’s approval.”
Rebecca began crying.
“I thought if I had the first granddaughter, she would finally stop finding things wrong with me.”
“She would not have.”
“I know.”
Margaret touched the table but did not reach for her.
“I understand why you were hurt.”
“I do not forgive what you did.”
Rebecca nodded.
“I do not expect you to.”
That was the first honest boundary between them.
Rebecca received nine years for kidnapping, conspiracy, and child endangerment.
Her cooperation and evidence reduced the sentence.

Senator Wynn resigned before being convicted of obstruction and conspiracy.
