CHAPTER 4 : THE PROMISE HE FINALLY KEPT

The old Moretti estate was surrounded before sunrise.

Anthony tried to run.

He didn't make it far.

When Dominic entered the mansion, Victor was waiting.

Older.

Weaker.

But not surprised.

"I wondered how long it would take."

Dominic stared at him.

"Why?"

Victor laughed bitterly.

"Because Father was going to give everything to you."

The confession poured out.

Jealousy.

Greed.

Hatred.

Victor had arranged the fire.

Hidden Rose.

Stolen the inheritance.

Then spent thirty years protecting the lie.

"You stole my family."

Dominic's voice shook.

Victor lowered his eyes.

For once, he had no excuse.

No defense.

No lie.

Only guilt.

Days later, Victor and Anthony were arrested.

The scandal dominated national headlines.

But Dominic didn't care about the money.

Or the family empire.

Or revenge.

He cared about one thing.

The people he thought he had lost.

Months passed.

Grace recovered.

Lily started school.

And every Sunday, three generations sat together for dinner.

One evening, Lily climbed into Dominic's lap.

"Grandpa?"

He smiled.

"Yeah?"

"Are you still a scary mafia boss?"

The room laughed.

Dominic looked at Grace.

Then at the framed photograph of Rose hanging above the fireplace.

The woman he never stopped loving.

The woman who never stopped believing he would find the truth.

Finally, he answered.

"No."

Lily frowned.

"What are you now?"

Dominic wrapped an arm around his daughter and granddaughter.

For the first time in thirty years, his heart felt whole.

"I'm just family."

Outside, the sun slowly set over Boston Harbor.

Inside, three generations shared a meal together.

The life that had been stolen was finally returned.

And sometimes the greatest victory isn't revenge.

May you like

It's getting back the people you thought were gone forever.

THE END.
