Chapter 3: The Confrontation

Margaret expected another quiet day.
Instead, Daniel placed a folder on the table.
Inside were printed screenshots from the security footage.
Margaret’s face lost its color.
“Daniel—”
“No,” he interrupted. “Ethan deserves to hear this.”
The boy looked frightened.
Daniel knelt beside him.
“None of this was your fault.”
Margaret tried to defend herself.
“I was trying to teach him discipline.”
Daniel’s voice remained calm, but it carried a weight that silenced the room.
“Discipline does not make a child believe he is unwanted.”
He took Ethan’s small hand.
“You are my son. This is your home. And no one will ever make you feel disposable again.”
Ethan’s eyes filled with tears, but he didn’t cry.
He simply held his father’s hand tighter.
