CHAPTER 3 — Every Witness Had a Choice

People always imagine justice arrives with sirens.
Sometimes...
It arrives with questions.
A woman from our legal team stepped into the center of the ballroom.
She carried a single tablet.
"No one is under arrest."
Relief swept across the guests.
Then she continued.
"Not yet."
The room froze again.
"We've reviewed every security recording from tonight."
The cameras above quietly rotated.
"You each have one opportunity."
Large digital timers appeared on every screen.
Ten minutes.
"If you witnessed an assault..."
"If you were pressured to remain silent..."
"If evidence was destroyed..."
"Come forward now."
"No retaliation will be pursued against cooperating witnesses."
Nobody moved.
Then...
The youngest waiter raised his hand.
"I saw everything."
A bartender followed.
"So did I."
A violinist.
Two photographers.
Three servers.
One hotel manager.
Even one of Damian's own friends stepped away from him.
"He wasn't drunk."
The young man swallowed.
"He knew exactly what he was doing."
More voices joined.
Someone produced deleted text messages.
Another handed over hidden cellphone videos.
A makeup artist admitted she'd been ordered to cover bruises from previous incidents involving other women.
The truth spread faster than fear ever had.
Within minutes...
The story Damian had controlled for years no longer existed.
He looked around desperately.
Every person who once protected him...
was protecting themselves instead.
May you like
For the first time in his life...
Power had abandoned him.
