CHAPTER 1 — The Girl Under the Spotlight “Stop the music!”
“Remove her!”
The command echoed again, sharper this time, as two security guards stepped onto the stage.
But the girl didn’t move.
She stood perfectly still under the blinding spotlight, as if the light belonged to her and not the grand theater. Her small fingers tightened slightly at her sides, trembling—but not from fear. From something deeper. Something held back for too long.
“Sweetheart,” one of the guards said more gently, crouching a little, “you can’t be here. Where are your parents?”
No answer.
Instead, her eyes lifted toward the balcony.
Not the stage manager. Not the guards.
The highest balcony.
Where the richest seats were.
Where silence suddenly felt heavier than sound.
A woman in an elegant black dress leaned forward slightly, her face pale. Something about the girl had already unsettled her—but she didn’t know why.
The girl finally spoke.
“I was invited.”
A wave of confused laughter rippled through the audience.
“Invited?” someone scoffed. “By who?”
The girl’s lips parted, and in a voice so soft it almost disappeared into the theater air, she said:
“By the man who built this place.”
The laughter died instantly.
May you like
Because that man had been dead for ten years.
And no one dared speak his name out loud anymore.
