Chapter 3: The Shadow Behind the Bloodline

The man who entered did not look like a ghost.
He looked like power.
Tailored coat. Calm expression. Eyes sharp enough to cut through memory itself.
Esteban’s breath stopped.
Because the man he believed was dead…
was standing there alive.
“Hello, Esteban,” the man said calmly.
Like he was arriving late to dinner—not stepping into a war.
Yohandra flinched instantly.
Esteban stepped forward.
“You… you’re supposed to be dead.”
A faint smile formed on the man’s face.
“Death is a convenient story when people start asking questions.”
He glanced at Yohandra.
Then at Esteban.
Then his voice lowered.
“I see she told you everything.”
Esteban’s fists tightened.
“You destroyed her life.”
“I protected my family’s name,” the man corrected.
A long silence followed.
Then Yohandra spoke, weak but sharp:
“You ruined mine.”
The man didn’t deny it.
Instead, he looked almost… patient.
“As emotional as ever.”
His eyes moved toward the door again.
“Where is the child?”
Esteban stepped between them instantly.
“No.”
That single word changed the air in the room.
The man sighed.
“You always were stubborn.”
Then he added quietly:
“Just like her.”
Esteban froze.
“…Her?”
The man took a slow step forward.
“You think you understand what happened between you and Yohandra,” he said. “But you were never meant to.”
A pause.
A heavier truth waiting behind it.
“She wasn’t chosen by accident, Esteban.”
Yohandra’s eyes widened.
“Don’t—”
But it was too late.
The man continued.
“She was part of a plan.”
Esteban felt his stomach drop.
“What plan?”
The man smiled faintly.
“A legacy.”
Outside the room, something small shifted.
A sound.
A breath.
A presence.
Esteban turned.
And in the doorway—
the little girl stood.
Soaked. Shaking. Still holding the torn photograph.
Her eyes locked on the man.
And she whispered:
“Mommy…?”
May you like
The man finally looked… satisfied.
“There you are.”
