CHAPTER 4: THE MORNING BETRAYAL

Morning came too bright.

Too normal.

That’s how danger hides.

At 8:15 AM, the doorbell rang.

Two men stood outside.

Not police.

Not doctors.

Private medical transport.

“Mrs. Anna Carter?” one of them said.

“She needs to come with us for prenatal relocation. Authorized by family consent.”

Anna turned to me, panicking.

“I didn’t sign anything…”

I already knew who did.

My mother appeared behind them.

Perfect hair.

Perfect posture.

Like nothing had happened at 3:12 AM.

“I’m protecting my grandson,” she said simply.

“You’re not stable enough to carry this pregnancy safely.”

Anna shook her head.

“No… no, I’m fine—please—”

The men stepped forward.

That’s when I moved.

I stood between them and Anna.

“No one is taking her anywhere.”

My mother sighed.

Disappointed.

Like I was a child refusing bedtime.

“You always were emotional,” she said.
“That’s why you fail at leadership.”

Then she looked at the men.

“Proceed.”

One of them reached for Anna.

And that’s when I pulled out my phone.

Pressed play.

A recording.

Her voice.

From last night.

“Let’s see who protects you.”

Then another clip.

Her admitting she arranged “removal authorization.”

The men froze.

My mother’s expression finally cracked.

Just slightly.

For the first time… she wasn’t in control.

I looked at her and said:

“You don’t control this house anymore.”
