CHAPTER 4 — THE WOMAN WHO DISAPPEARED

At 9:47 a.m., Ethan finally called her.
Straight to voicemail.
Again.
Voicemail.
Again.
Nothing.
The Beverly Hills mansion was empty when he arrived.
Not abandoned.
Erased.
Her closet: empty.
Her side of the bed: untouched.
Her presence: professionally removed.
On the marble kitchen counter, only one thing remained.
A printed copy of the hotel photo.
And beneath it, a single line written in clean black ink:
“You taught me how easily reputation can be built.”
“So I learned how easily it can be destroyed.”
Ethan stood there longer than he should have.
May you like
For the first time, he wasn’t thinking like a CEO.
He was thinking like a man who had lost a war before realizing it had started.
