Chapter 3: The Fortune Hidden in the Will

Olivia didn't confront them.
Not yet.
Predators became careless when they believed they had already won.
She invited everyone to breakfast.
Beatrice smiled while pouring coffee.
Claire asked if Leo had slept well.
Mara remained silent near the kitchen door.
Then Olivia placed a folder in the center of the table.
"My husband changed his will three months before he died."
The smiles disappeared.
"There are two versions," Olivia continued.
"You've all seen the fake one."
Claire's face lost its color.
"The real will is held by my attorney."
Beatrice's voice hardened.
"What are you talking about?"
Olivia opened the folder.
"If Leo dies before his tenth birthday..."
she paused.
"...every company share transfers into a charitable trust."
No one inherited a dollar.
No one.
"But if Leo survives..."
she looked directly at Claire.
"...he becomes the sole beneficiary when he turns eighteen."
Silence.
The room suddenly felt too small.
Olivia finally understood.
This had never been about gaining the fortune.
It was about preventing anyone else from getting it.
Someone had promised investors control of the family empire.
Leo's death was the final requirement.
Mara quietly spoke.
"They're running out of time."
Olivia looked up.
"What do you mean?"
"The medicine wasn't designed to kill him immediately."
Mara's voice remained steady.
"It was designed to make his illness look worse."
"So when he dies..."
"...everyone blames the disease."
Olivia felt sick.

Someone had planned every detail.
Months in advance.
